Sisters Courtney and Brittany Phelps have been announced as the winners of the Clean & Clear Burst into Stardom competition winning the chance to appear in their very own television commercial.

The initiative, created by popular skincare brand Clean & Clear, saw dozens of New Zealand girls submit videos which captured the essence of a “wacky way to wake-up” to the brand’s online Bebo page.

The quirky “Balloons Bursting” video created by the Rotorua siblings has now been re-shot by MTV and the girls will appear on screen as the faces of the Clean & Clear Morning Burst range.

“It was so much fun filming the advertisement,” says Courtney, aged 16. “The whole thing was great, but we both especially enjoyed being behind the scenes and learning how it all worked.”

Clean & Clear Brand Manager Rachel Faulkner says there were a number of great entries but Courtney and Brittany’s video stood out for it’s originality.

“They really put a lot of thought into it,” she says. “The video was fantastic and truly captured what the Clean & Clear Morning Burst products are all about.”

The video shows older sister Courtney blowing up balloons, and putting then all over her sleeping sister Brittany, before bursting them to wake her up.

“We wanted something that related to the product,” says Courtney. “We came up with the balloons to imitate the bursting beads in the product and bursting them was a fun and wacky wakeup idea that we hadn’t seen being used before.”

As winners of the Burst Into Stardom competition, Courtney and Brittany also received a shopping spree and took part in a professional photoshoot for teen magazine Girlfriend.

Younger sister Brittany, aged 15, says that the experience was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

“Thanks to Clean & Clear we have had a taste of fame and had the most amazing experience of our lives,” she says.

The Clean & Clear Morning Burst television advertisement will screen nationwide from February.
