Taupo District Council’s Principal Rural Fire Officer is warning residents to be aware of the dry weather as it is forecast to continue through until mid February.

The dry weather spell is expected to continue for several more weeks with the Taupo District being one of the driest in the country according to MetService advisors.

Taupo is also looking very high on the Rural Fire index with it verging on very dry to extreme.

People mustn’t throw cigarette butts out of car windows as it can very easily cause a fire in this weather. Those wanting to light an open fire need to have a fire permit.

Call 111 immediately if you discover a fire.
