BBQ - best way to enjoy lakeside dinner

Public barbeques in prime lakefront locations are proving popular with those wishing to enjoy an al fresco dinner on Taupo’s lake edge.

Taupo District Council has five electric barbecues in lakeside recreational reserves at Hot Water Beach on Lake Terrace, Two-Mile Bay and Wharewaka Point.

The barbeques are coin-operated and cost $2 for 20 minutes. They are easy to use and are cleaned at least once a day by Council sanitation staff and also steam-cleaned monthly. To ensure everyone can benefit from the facilities, people are requested to leave the barbeques in a tidy state after use.

“What better way to soak up Taupo’s energy than to have a good old-fashioned BBQ beside the lake with your family and friends,” says Taupo Mayor Rick Cooper. “Our visitors always make good use of our great BBQ facilities, but I encourage locals to get out there too and make the most of it while the weather is still good.”
