Resce off New Brighton Pier in Canterbury District, 10:00pm

At about 5.20pm on 10/2/09 a 24 year old female has jumped off the end of New Brighton pier into the sea.

She was seen by members of the public who have thrown a life buoy to her which she has eventually grabbed.

Member of the New Brighton Surf Life Saving Club who had turned up for training nearby have rescued her from the water.

The female was intoxicated and was taken to hospital for treatment. However, she did not appear to have any significant injuries.
