A total fire ban remains in place in Kaipara despite last weekend’s rain providing some relief from the dry conditions.

The Prohibited Fire Season bans all fires in the open except commercially manufacture barbeques and incinerators which are allowed subject to a number of conditions.

Principal Rural Fire Officer, Fiona Vessey, said on Monday that the fire risk is rising again after the rain and although things may be starting to look greener there is still a large amount of combustible material around, some of which may be hidden.

While some other councils may introduce restricted seasons Kaipara does not use this half-way option between open and prohibited seasons. As a result the total ban will remain in place until weather conditions and fire indicators make it’s removal safe.
