Today the New Zealand JWOC team had its best ever single day performance in the history of JWOC.

Three top-20 placings were achieved by the team, with Thomas Reynolds (North West) placing a very respectable 15th place in the mens field. Greta Knarston (Counties Manukau) and Lizzie Ingham (Wellington) were 19th and 20th respectively in the womens field.

Both Reynolds and Knarston are first ever JWOC members, and both have numerous years of JWOC's ahead of themselves. Reynolds was "over the moon" with his performance, which had him only 43 seconds behind the winner from the Czech Republic. Reynolds lost a small bit of time, around the 15 seconds mark from hesitation on the long route of the course, but was still unsure of if he could see himself making the podium (top six placing).

Out of the other NZ women, Tineke Berthelson (Hamilton) looked very strong with running speed but made numerous errors out on the course. Kate Rea (Hutt Valley) was looking stong, other than a lot of heistation in the event centre due to the masses of people. All the courses featured numerous spectator controls and had a runthrough the event centre. Kate Morrison (Hawke's Bay) started early and along with Nicola Peat (Counties Manukau) had strong debuts at their first JWOC's.

Out of the other NZ men, Simon Jager (Auckland) was a bit disappointed with himself and will be looking forward to some strong performances later in the week. Sam McNally (Rotorua), Jack Vincent (Hawke's Bay) and Andrew Peat (Counties Manukau) all made errors out on the course and are also looking forward to the other races. Riki Cambridge was disqualified after missing a control immediately after the spectator leg.

The next race is the long distance on Monday out on a new granite map. The long distance is a straight final for all competitors.
