WELLINGTON CITY

Players, officials and spectators at today's One Day International between New Zealand and India, at Westpac Stadium, Wellington, will observe a minute's silence before the start of play, in recognition of the attack on the Sri Lankan team in Pakistan this week. Players and official will also wear black armbands during the game.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has requested the observance at all international matches starting on 6 or 7 March. This also includes the fifth test between the West Indies and England, at Port of Spain, and the second test between South Africa and Australia at Durban. Matches at the ICC Women's World Cup in Sydney will also participate.

The script to be read out at the ground is as follows:

Public address script for minute’s silence ahead of international matches starting on 6 or 7 March

Ladies and gentlemen

On Tuesday morning the Sri Lanka cricket team together with the umpires, match referee and other officials left their hotel in Lahore in Pakistan and headed for the Gaddafi Stadium for what they thought would be the third day’s play in the second Test match against the host country.

As we know now, the convoy was attacked by terrorists; players, officials and members of the security forces were injured and seven people lost their lives.

Six of those killed were police officers while the driver of the minibus carrying the match officials also died.

Players and officials will wear black armbands today to pay their respects, but before we start play, let us all please observe a minute’s silence in memory of those who were killed or injured in that terrible incident and also consider the families of those victims at this time.

Thank you.
