WAITAKERE CITY

At about 11.45am on Saturday, 14th March 2009 Waitakere Police were involved in a low speed Pursuit in the West Auckland area.

A 26 year old Northland man was spoken to in relation to a minor traffic matter at Glen Eden. He very quickly became aggressive, assaulted a Police Sergeant and threatened him with a weapon before driving away in his vehicle.

A low speed Police pursuit followed. The sole male occupant of the vehicle was eventually stopped by Police in Te Atatu South.

Despite repeated demands for the driver to co-operate, he remained aggressive and threatened Police with a screwdriver. A qualified Police taser operator attended at the scene and although further requests to the driver to co-operate were made, the taser was required to be deployed.

A 26 year old Northland man will appear at the Waitakere District Court on Monday, 16th March 2009 to answer a number of criminal and traffic charges.
