As anticipation builds worldwide for the launch of the new STAR TREK film, SKYCITY today announced it is rolling out the red carpet for its star- studded Auckland premiere at the Sky Tower on Thursday 9 April.

Local and international stars will take to the red carpet at SKYCITY for the premiere, which will be attended by lead actors Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and New Zealand’s very own Karl Urban.

The red carpet walk begins at 6pm with some 350 guests enjoying the glitz and the glamour of the Sky Deck and Sky Lounge which will be specially ‘Star Trek themed’ for the evening. Guests will then be led to SKYCITY Cinema Queen Street for another walk down the red carpet at 7.30pm, and another chance for fans to catch a glimpse of the stars, followed by the screening of the movie.

SKYCITY CEO Nigel Morrison says it is fitting to have the premiere of such an internationally anticipated film at SKYCITY.

``SKYCITY is the home of entertainment in Auckland and we are delighted to be launching this fantastic movie to New Zealand at the top of the Sky Tower. With such a star-studded line up, including our very own Karl Urban, this event is shaping up to be the hottest ticket in town.’’

Paramount Pictures New Zealand Managing Director Peter Garner says:

``JJ Abrams new STAR TREK promises to be one of the standout action films this year. With a talented young cast to compliment the directing creativity, this film has all the assets necessary to draw a broad cinema audience.

``We are delighted to be working with New Zealand’s leading entertainment destination SKYCITY to bring to Auckland and New Zealand an exciting world-class premiere.’’

The premiere begins its journey in Sydney on 7 April, with its second stop at SKYCITY Auckland on 9 April, before it continues around the world finally reaching the US. New Zealand movie fans can beat the crowds when the film opens to the general public on 7 May by booking early at www.skycitycinemas.co.nz to get in the draw to win tickets to the premiere on 9 April. Fans along the red carpet are also in with a chance to win last minute seats at the premiere.

STAR TREK is set before the famous original STAR TREK series. It tells the story of a new vision of the greatest space adventure of all time, ``Star Trek’’ featuring a young, new crew venturing boldly where no one has gone before. The film is directed by J.J. Abrams, produced by Damon Lindelof and Bryan Burk and written by Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman.
