At about 5.20 pm on Tuesday the 14th April Police, fire and ambulance staff were called to a fatal vehicle crash on the Wyndham Road between Wyndham and Mataura, Southland.
The crash involved 2 vehicles.
An Isuzu Trooper station wagon which contained only the driver.
A Toyota Camry which contained the driver and 2 passengers.
Occupants from the vehicles were trapped inside the wreckage and had to be freed by the emergency services.
The 2 passengers from the Camry died at the scene.
Police have not released the names of those who died but confirm that they lived locally. One was a 15 year old female and the other a 19 year old male.
The drivers from both vehicles were transported to Southland hospital. Their conditions are not yet known.
The crash is being investigated by the Serious Crash unit assisted by other police staff as well as specialists.
The cause of the crash is not yet known.
