The ability to record digital TV is now becoming a reality for many New Zealander’s. Busy lives demand more flexibility around when we watch TV, which has led to the rise of digital recording with the use of a personal video recorder (PVR). With products such as the Topfield TF6000PVR ES and the Hyundai AH-3110 now available along with talk of the upcoming Tivo, the PVR is now a must have gadget.

One of the great features of course of a PVR is that it allows you to record TV or radio signals in digital quality, and then play them back whenever you wish. But they also have other great features that give flexibility for our viewing habits. For example, time shift recording is a fantastic feature that allows you to pause a live broadcast and return to it moments or hours later and continue where you left off. Great for a tea break and you don’t even have to wait for the ads!

Take the TF6000PVR ES from a brand synonymous with quality, Topfield. This is a great PVR that can be used with the Freeview satellite service, a service available to all New Zealanders. Using the EPG, you can select the programmes you want to record for the whole week. The PVR features twin tuners and 320GB of recording space allowing you to record one program while you watch another or even record two programs simultaneously.

For those wanting a terrestrial PVR, the Hyundai AH-3110 Combo PVR is a great choice.
The Hyundai AH-3110 is New Zealand's first combo satellite/terrestrial receiver allowing you to record Freeview or Freeview HD with full EIT EPG. When connected to both and an external USB 2.0 HDD, the satellite EPG can be used to schedule programmes to be recorded from either the satellite service or the terrestrial service.

The great feature of these units is the flexibility they provide for our viewing habits. Those annoying ads can be skipped in seconds, programmes can be recorded with a touch of a button, and all with no ongoing fees. The PVR revolution is here!
