From District Librarian Heather Taylor.

Throughout the holidays, the four community libraries at Dannevirke, Woodville, Pahiatua and Eketahuna, ran craft sessions with the theme of “Bugs ‘n Butterflies”. Children created a variety of caterpillars, butterflies and spiders using plenty of glue, glitter, pompoms, pipe cleaners, paper and googly eyes.

Numbers attending around the district varied from five to 41, and all the children enjoyed themselves thoroughly.

There were new books galore available for the children too with over 500 new children’s titles being added to the libraries’ collections over the last few months.

The Aotearoa People’s Network again proved popular throughout the holidays with the 16 public access Internet PC’s constantly in use. It is great to see users of this service stopping in the libraries after using the computers to check out books or catch up with friends.

During the holidays, the Dannevirke library held a very successful book sale. Over time, library books are deleted from the collections due to lack of use, the information in them becoming dated or the physical condition of the books means they are no longer attractive. It is great to see the books find a second home and further use.

Remember we are adding new books to the collection all the time; go to our online catalogue and look at the reading lists to see what has recently been added, and even what has recently been ordered. You can reserve these books from home if you are a library member or come into the library and have one of our helpful librarians do it for you.
