Rubbish bag cost to be $2 with half bag on the way

Reduction in bag cost pushes more back onto ratepayers.

Thames-Coromandel District Council ratepayers will continue to pick up a significant share of the cost of solid waste services as a result of a decision to raise the cost of rubbish bags to $2 from the current $1.50.

Councillors agreed to the introduction of a half-size bag at a cost of $1.20 to address the concerns of many ratepayers who say they have minimal amounts of rubbish and have to either put out a half empty bag each week, or keep their rubbish for two weeks.

The above decisions still have to be confirmed in June when the Council signs off on the 2009-2019 Ten Year Plan.
