NORTH SHORE CITY

5:40pm 10 May 2009 - At about 4.27p.m police were called to the Devonport Wharf where Coastguard had rescued a 53 year old Auckland man from the sea. The man had sustained a head injury and needed to be resuscitated at the scene. He was taken to North-Shore hospital for treatment, where his condition was described as serious causing concern. A number of passengers and other people at the ferry terminal were detained whilst enquiries were made as to circumstances as to how the man had received his injuries.
Witnesses were able to confirm that the man had been a passenger on the Ferry and had rushed through an exit door and attempted to jump off the vessel, back onto the wharf when it was disembarking.
Police would like to thank the members of the public for their patience and cooperation in helping them with their enquiries.
