The Wanaka Town Centre Working Party is delighted with the level of feedback it received on the Draft Wanaka Town Centre Strategy, working party chairman Charlie Grant said.

The Queenstown Lakes District Council consulted on the strategy, which will shape the future of the township, during March/April.

“We had a lot of interest in the two drop-in sessions at the Lake Wanaka Centre, with around 80 people attending” he said.

The formal submission process also attracted a lot of feedback, with 68 submissions received.

“Many people put a lot of effort into their submissions, with detailed suggestions and modifications being put forward, reflecting the high level of local interest in the future form and function of the town centre” he said.

The working party was now going through these, and discussing appropriate revisions to the strategy.

“We are planning to present the final version of the strategy to the August meeting of the Wanaka Community Board and the September meeting of the Strategy Committee” Mr Grant said.
