Local design buffs will be thinking twice about what they throw out in the rubbish, as entries open for ReStyle 09.

Previously known as Trash to Fashion, ReStyle is the new name given to the event that has wowed Hamilton audiences for the past nine years by parading original pieces of wearable art made from recycled and reused organic and inorganic materials down the catwalk. Coordinated by The Body Shop, the event is open to students and designers throughout the greater Waikato region.

Hamilton City Council Environmental Policy Advisor Aaron Fleming said as well as getting the creative juices flowing, ReStyle is a unique way of promoting waste minimisation issues and encouraging youth to get involved in environmental initiatives.

"As a sponsor of ReStyle, Hamilton City Council is proud to be part of such a vibrant and creative approach to environmental issues," he said.

"Whether you are a student looking to showcase your creativity, a novice wanting to try your hand at something new or an experienced designer hoping to raise your profile, ReStyle is a fun event to become involved in, as well as a great way of giving waste a second lease on life."

This year's competition categories include:
