A new transition Lake Taupo Tourism Advisory Board (LTTAB) is to develop a proposal for improved destination marketing for the district.

Following last October’s Visitor Industry Forum, the current board members were appointed to act as an interim board until 31 May 2009. This board has been working with the Council, Destination Lake Taupo and the Visitor Industry Taskforce to address various issues raised during the Visitor Industry Forum. Council is grateful for the contribution these people have made over the past six months.

A new transition LTTAB of five members will be appointed in the coming months and will be tasked with investigating an improved delivery model for destination marketing activity. The board will present its proposal to Council by December 2009. Council will then consult widely with the visitor industry and other affected parties on the proposal.

The proposal will cover the establishment of a new entity for governance and delivery of destination marketing. The new marketing entity may be in the form of a charitable trust, such as those found in Hawke’s Bay, Dunedin and Taranaki.

Deputy Mayor Christine McElwee said that Taupo District has been undertaking destination marketing using the same structure for a very long time. “Council is keen to help create a new destination marketing entity that will be second to none in the country,” she said.
