Tickets are selling fast for Ngati Whatua-hosted Matariki event, Native Noise 09, a concert being held at Auckland’s Town Hall Friday June 26.

The signature event of the Auckland Matariki Festival, the concert opens with a traditional Maori welcome to all concert goers and then kicks into the full lineup of reggae and roots culminating with the distinctively Aotearoa drum ‘n bass sound of Tiki Taane with his acoustic DJ and kapa haka.

Other acts include Katchafire, Three Houses Down, Cornerstone Roots and DJ Poroufessor.

Concert producer Renata Blair says the Ngati Whatua and Auckland City Council sponsored event will again be electric.

Blair says the appearance of the Matariki is a significant time for Maori and Aotearoa New Zealand. ‘We see all kinds of Aucklander’s at our concerts who enjoy access to our growing Aotearoa culture”.

He says Matariki is also a festival of culture, language, life, spirit and people.

“This is a popular concert, selling out in previous years so we are expecting a good crowd and a good atmosphere.”

Tickets can be secured by calling 0800 289 842 or by going to www.the-edge.co.nz
