The Queenstown Lakes District Council is seeking feedback on a proposed plan change to extend the existing Wanaka industrial zone, QLDC strategy committee chairwoman Councillor Gillian Macleod said.

“The requirement to extend the area was first identified in the Wanaka 2020 process and a ‘business needs analysis’ has told us that we could be looking at an additional 20 hectares to cater for growth for the next decade and beyond,’ Cr Macleod said.

The plan change proposed creating industrial zoning on Frederick Street, currently Rural General and land between Frederick Street and Gordon Road.

“There are a number of issues that need to be considered and before progressing the plan change, we would greatly appreciate feedback on the proposal,” she said.
Things to think about included:

  • Landscaping;
  • Provision of infrastructure (water, sewage etc);
  • Parking;
  • Traffic and travel implications.

To assist, the council had produced a brochure outlining the proposal, which was available on the council website www.qldc.govt.nz or at council offices.

The feedback would be reported to the strategy committee before the plan change advanced further.
“If the plan change does go ahead then there will be a formal public process, where people will get to make submissions,’ Cr Macleod said.

Feedback on the proposal should be with the council by 22 July, 2009.
