Team N-Duro Mountainbiker Nic Leary continued her great run of form today with a fine 2nd place at the final of the Canada Cup XC series. Raced in challenging conditions at Bromont, Quebec.

Following on from her win at last weeks BC Champs, it was yet another step forward for the emerging talent, and went a long way to erasing the dissapointment of her tough day at the previous Canada Cup round a fortnight ago. Amongst a strong field, Leary rode a strong and smart race on what was a very challenging course both physically and technically.

"I'm just stoked to put another result on the board," said a delighted Leary. "I know I've still got a lot more 'getting faster' to do, but today felt great. I've been working hard on my technical riding and today that really showed through. I'm really happy not just for me, but for everyone who supports me. My Sponsors, Friends, and Family."

Persistent rain through the week had turned the course into a sloppy mess before the race, but hard work by the track crew smoothed things out a little overnight. Still, it was a very tough, and energy sapping course that presented itself to riders at race start. Handicapped a little by a rear of the field start position, Leary worked her way steadily forward throughout the race. 12th after lap one, to finally grab 2nd just 100m from the end of the 4th and final lap.

Meanwhile, Leary's Partner (and Coach) Mark "Cabin" Leishman ensured it was a memorable day for the couple, turning in a strong top 10 finish of his own. Ïronically, better than his Canada Cup efforts in 2003/2004. And coming on the back of his new focus of XTERRA competition.

At the rear of a 60 rider strong field early on, his techical and running abilities shown through, as he steadily picked his way forward. From 30th after lap one, to a final 9th place, still gaining on the top 5. Joking later "I just needed another couple of laps.... or maybe a swim leg in there somewhere, and I would've been on the podium for sure!

The pair will take a few days rest, before moving on to Vermont, where Leishman will contest the XTERRA Northeast Championship on July 12th. While Leary focusses on training towards the Mt Ste Anne and Bromont legs of the MTB World Cup. To be raced on July 25th/Aug 2nd respectively.
