Kiwi basketball fans have cause for celebration with the announcement of Burger King as the new major partner of the NZ Breakers.

Building on its decade long association with the sport, Burger King is proud to take its commitment to the next level by confirming it is the team’s new principal sponsor. The arrangement includes naming rights and support of educational resources via involvement in their community programme.

Burger King Head of Marketing, Rachael Allison says the sponsorship is a natural fit and the next step in the relationship.

“We have supported basketball for ten years in New Zealand,” says Ms Allison. “We have supported the Breakers since the team was launched six years ago and we are excited to take this support to the next stage by becoming the naming rights sponsor of the NZ Breakers.”

Ms Allison adds: “At Burger King we focus our marketing activity on what our customers love – basketball is incredibly popular and fits the bill perfectly. It is one of the fastest growing participation sports in New Zealand, with more 16-24 year olds playing basketball, than rugby or netball*. We are proud to encourage basketball and help provide resources.”

NZ Breakers General Manager, Richard Clarke says the team is pumped to have the burger chain as its new naming sponsor.

“Burger King and the NZ Breakers have a long term relationship. This announcement comes at the end of a very exciting season for us and sets us up for even greater achievements in the future – on and off the court.

“Both the team and Burger King value quality and entertainment – we’re looking forward to putting these synergies to work and bringing basketball to more Kiwis, whether it’s watching the Breakers or enjoying more basketball resources in the community.”

The new sponsorship arrangement comes into effect immediately.
