“Inorganic means inorganic”.
Scavengers warned away

As Papakura’s annual inorganic rubbish collection gets under way, Papakura District Council is reminding residents of types of rubbish that are suitable for collection.
Project Manager for Waste Minimisation Sue Martin says broken furniture, appliances, carpet, bikes and other material that have come from private homes are accepted by the collection. Metal objects and tyres are recycled and the remainder is disposed of in a landfill. Items put out for collection must be able to be lifted by two people.

Fridges and ovens should have doors removed for safety reasons. The collection accepts child car seats and bike helmets that are being disposed of but Ms Martin says for safety reasons these items should be cut up or disabled so that they cannot be scavenged for re-use.

“This collection doesn’t take household rubbish, food based rubbish, hazardous or commercial rubbish. It does not collect tree clippings or other green waste. Inorganic means inorganic.”

Council has a policy to encourage re-use. Items in good condition can be donated to genuine charities though www.donatenz.com
Residents should place inorganic rubbish out on the frontage of the property they live in. Only residents of Papakura District are people entitled to participate in the collection.
Papakura District Council has information on its web site and available at the customer services reception at its Coles Crescent offices to let people know when they should set out inorganic collection material. Inorganic rubbish must be placed neatly on the kerb during the weekend prior to collection.
More information is available on the Council web site, www.papakura.govt.nz or from the Council by phoning 296 2610.
