The departure time of the after five commuter bus service from central Dunedin to Port Chalmers will return to the earlier time of 5.15pm from next week.

Otago Regional Council (ORC) director policy & resource planning Fraser McRae said the 5.15pm service was moved to 5.30pm from the start of the new bus timetable in July. The re-timing was designed to reduce the previous gap of 55 minutes between it and the next service which departs Dunedin at 6.10pm.

Following public concern at the change, late last month the ORC surveyed users of the Port Chalmers service on the preferred time for the service to run and the clear choice was for a return to the previous 5.15pm start time.

The 5.15pm city to Port Chalmers service departs from Countdown on weekdays from Monday 10 August.

"We share the goal of the bus users on this route who genuinely wanted to improve the bus service. We appreciate their feedback and the need to understand their service requirements," Mr McRae said.

For more details on any Dunedin bus services refer to the ORC website: www.orc.govt.nz or contact the bus services centre on 474 0287 Monday to Friday from 8am to 8pm or from 9am to 5pm at weekends.
