Taupo has long been called the centre of it all – but once the ETA is completed, there will be even more roads leading into it.

Motorists travelling in either direction on State Highway 1 will have more options to gain access into Taupo when the ETA is completed. Not only will motorists be able to use the existing access via Wairakei in the north and Lake Terrace in the south, there will be three new options – Centennial Drive, Broadlands Road and SH5.

“Waiting in long summer queues will become a distant memory when the ETA opens” says Ron Boyle, ETA Project Manager. “No matter which direction you are travelling making the journey to Taupo’s summer playground will become a much more enjoyable trip, plus local road users won’t have the long waits currently experienced, especially at the control gates bridge.”

The ETA will pass over both Centennial Drive and Broadlands Road via two bridges with access ramps on and off the ETA at each road, whilst a roundabout will be in place at the Napier /Taupo SH5 intersection.
