Tickets for next month’s Youth Concert to be held in Dargaville’s new swimming pool complex go on sale on Wednesday (19 August) as preparations for this event continue. The concert is expected to draw 2,500 to 3,000 people and contribute to the ongoing fundraising for the project.

Next weekend, a blessing of the pool site (delayed from the beginning of the year) will take place ahead of the 19 September concert.

Mori Kaumtua will perform a traditional ceremony including karakia (prayers) to help ensure the cultural and spiritual safety of those working on the site, those others associated with the project and raising funds to support it, and all those who participate in the Youth Concert and the following Public Open Day.

The ceremony will not be an opening. Once construction has ended in December, a traditional dawn blessing of the completed pool will be held prior to a formal Civic Opening.

In addition to next weekend’s blessing by Kumatua, the contractors, Barfoote Construction, will be fully supporting the event and as part of their contribution, will be undertaking extra work at no cost to ensure the physical security and safety of the site for the weekend concert and open day.
