At its meeting on 17 August, 2009, the Dunedin City Council appointed nine directors to sit on the inaugural board of the new Dunedin Venues Management Limited company. Former judge, Sir John Hansen, will chair the board and Peter Stubbs will be deputy. The other directors are Stewart Barnett, Bill Baylis, Peter Brown, Malcolm Farry, Peter Hutchison, Jennifer Rolfe and Kereyn Smith.

Dunedin Venues Management Limited (DVML) will manage the Council’s suite of venues. Initially, the Forsyth Barr Stadium at University Plaza will be its focus but it will also manage, at a later date, the Dunedin Centre complex following its major redevelopment and the Edgar Sports Centre.

The Carisbrook Stadium Trust would retain its responsibility for the development of the stadium and all Directors of DVML will become trustees of the Trust.

The DVML board will hold its first meeting in the next few weeks.

Dunedin Mayor Peter Chin said the city was fortunate people of this calibre had offered their services.

“Some of the directors live outside the city but have such strong links to Dunedin they are willing to take the time to travel here to make their expertise available. We can consider ourselves to be especially fortunate to have attracted their interest,” Mr Chin said.

“The common feeling among all the directors was that Dunedin was a special place and they look forward to being part of an exciting new venture.”

Annual remuneration will be $24,000 for the chairman and $16,000 for each director, plus expenses for out of town directors.
