Man dies in house fire

At about 1.00am on Sunday 30 August 2009, a fire engulfed a house at a Jack St address, Whangarei.

Attending firefighters located the body of a 29 year old male in one of the bedrooms, it appeared the victim had succumbed to smoke inhalation.

A post-mortem is being conducted.

Fire investigators have completed an initial inspection of the scene, and it appears that the fire started in the kitchen area.

Police are not treating the incident as suspicious.
