WELLINGTON

Westpac New Zealand today announced it has made a commitment to renew its sponsorship of Westpac Stadium for a further term with the Wellington Regional Stadium Trust.

Westpac Stadium was officially opened on 3 January 2000. It has had more than five million people through its gates to watch international rugby tests, one day cricket internationals, big-name rock concerts from the likes of The Rolling Stones, and a variety of other functions and activities. Around 45 major events are held each year, as well as many community events.

“Westpac is very proud to be able to continue supporting what we believe is the best stadium in the country,” says Mark Graham, National Sponsorship Manager, Westpac.

“The renewal of our association demonstrates Westpac’s desire to support the Wellington community while acknowledging the stadium’s positive impact on the local economy.”

Wellington's Mayor, Kerry Prendergast, believes Westpac Stadium is an important cultural hub not only for Wellingtonians, but everyone who visits the city.

“Over the past ten years the Westpac Stadium has become far more than just a stadium – it is an absolute icon which plays a huge part in the life of the city and region,” says Mayor Prendergast.

“I'm delighted that Westpac is to remain a vital supporter of the Stadium and help build on its fantastic success.”

The Wellington Stadium Trust is happy to be working with Westpac for a further term.

“At the end of this year it will be ten years since Westpac boldly supported us when the Stadium was just a vision. It is hard to believe now, but back then there were many doubters,” says David Gray, CEO, Wellington Regional Stadium Trust.

“Westpac was a founding partner on day one, and through its support we have become an integral part of the fabric of the Wellington region, a key driver in attracting major events and visitors to the city, and a focal point for community activities.”

“We very much look forward to our ongoing partnership.”
