QUEENSTOWN

One of Queenstown’s leading construction companies is going down the sustainability track with the fitout of a new Westpac bank in the heart of Frankton.

Rilean Construction is working closely with Westpac Properties in delivering a building that meets a range of carbon footprint reduction measures and works with the bank’s zero waste policy.

The new bank, which occupies a high-profile position in the new Terrace Junction commercial development next to the BP Connect service station on the Frankton Road, is adopting a range of energy management, recycling and eco-friendly measures in the fitout.

Rilean Construction director Steve McLean said the company was increasingly aware of developer and tenants’ sustainability requirements during building and fitouts.

“We’re very happy to work with them to help install all the latest high efficiency lighting and sensors, incorporate a recycling station into the fitout, and re-use or recycle old furniture where we can.

“It’s an area of our business that is certainly growing as more and more clients, particularly corporate clients, expect us to be able to deliver buildings that are in line with these cultural changes.”

Westpac area manager Andrew Moreton said Westpac Properties had a facilities management team that was charged with managing the sustainability of any new or refurbished property around the country.

“We’re investing in Queenstown by adding this second bank in the town because we see it as an area of real growth,” he said. “The new Terrace Junction building will be a flagship for the town because of its high visibility site, and specialist bankers to deliver business banking, private bank and investment advisory services.

“It’s been a pleasure to work with a local construction company that understands our requirements and deadlines.”

An official opening day will take place at the bank on Saturday October 31.

The 3,500sqm Terrace Junction complex has attracted a number of high profile retail and customer-orientated ground floor tenants in Stage One such as Westpac, Burger King, Bridgman and Dean Optometrist, and Betty’s Liquor, while office space above includes a law firm, building surveyor, hairdresser and a health related business. Stage Two, scheduled to open in December, will house several more complementary businesses.

Developers Di and Lindsay Williams said they were pleased with the level of leasing at this stage of the development, and there were still some tenancies available.
