Taupo District Council adopted the new Code of Practice at a Council meeting on Tuesday, which has incorporated a number of changes based on submissions received.

The new code raises the bar in terms of stormwater disposal, both on site and in public systems. This will provide greater protection to the lake and other waterways. The code also encourages innovation in design to meet the required standards.

Deputy Mayor Christine McElwee said she was pleased to see the changes incorporated after the submissions and hearings which have improved the policy. She publicly thanked all the submitters, including members of professions who service land development, for their constructive contributions to the new Code of Practice.

Changes to the District Plan will be required which will include amendments associated with connecting to Council infrastructure, earthworks in the residential and industrial environment, roading standards and stormwater. These plan changes will undergo the full RMA public consultation process.
