Council stopped selling the ‘kerbside’ black bags on 25 September 2009. Council is no longer competing with the private sector for refuse collection.

But Waitaki residents still have some time up their sleeves to use the Council black bags or ‘trade’ the black bags at Council for private sector ‘white’ and ‘yellow’ replacements.

People can put their black bags out for collection until November 27th, 2009 under Councils existing contract. Councils black refuse bags will not be collected and the Council refuse contract will be terminated.

If residents still have unused black bags they can take the bags to transfer stations throughout the district or to the Palmerston landfill free of charge until 30 June 2010.

Alternatively, people can choose to exchange their Council black bags as part payment for the higher priced Transpacific Industries yellow refuse bags or Awamoa Bins & Skips white recycling bags. To make the transition easier, Council will exchange the bags at its Thames St office from 30 November 2009 until 31 January 2010.
