Environment Waikato will be monitoring river levels across the region as steady rain is forecast to continue all week.
“While river systems are coping at present, we are keeping an eye on things because there is the potential for more rain toward the end of the week,” said rivers and catchment group manager Scott Fowlds.

A wet September for the Waikato has continued over the weekend, with a further 40-80 mm recorded across the region.
Environment Waikato staff are out in the field, checking pumps, floodgates and stopbanks. Staff are also monitoring river levels and rainfall, and are alerting landowners, councils and other stakeholders when early warning river levels are triggered.

“Both the Waikato and Waipa rivers have risen overnight and we are advising landowners to keep a close eye on river levels,” Mr Fowlds said.
