Results from the New Zealand under 17 & under 15 Badminton Championships being played in Hamilton
Points of interest:
Brothers Evan and Kerwyn Lee from North Harbour are brothers. Both are seeded top in their respective age groups; Kerwyn in the under 15, Evan in the under 17. Last week Evan won the mixed doubles at the New Zealand under 19 championships. Kerwyn is also playing in the under 17 singles in these national championships. He was unseeded in the boys singles but has so far defeated two seeded players; Roy Wong from Akl seeded 5/8 in the first round and then Shane Masinipeni (CM) who was seeded 9/16 in the third round. Kerwyn is now in the quarter-finals of all three events in the under 15 age group and the quarter finals of the boys singles in the under 17 age group where he will play Asher Richardson (Can) who is seeded 2nd. Richardson is a member of the NZ junior team (u19)travelling to the world junior championships in Malaysia next month. Richardson and his partner Melissa Yin (NH), seeded 3/4, were surprisingly defeated in the last 16 round of the mixed doubles last night by Maika Phillips (NH) and Carmen Yuen (AK)
The finals will be played on Friday
