Seven Arrested at Port Taranaki

TARANAKI

At 7 am on Sunday 11 October 2009 New Plymouth Police responded to a call from Port Taranaki that two Greenpeace boats were writing on the side of a ship berthed at a wharf.

Police arrived shortly after.  A large slogan had been spray painted on the side of the ship.

Occupants of the two IRBs used were spoken to by Police as they arrived at a jetty at the nearby Lee Breakwater.

They complied with the police request for them to disembark and were arrested for Entering an exclusion zone without authorisation (Maritime Safety Act 2004 Section 73) and Intentional Damage.

The four men and three women arrested are from Auckland.

They will be bailed later today to appear in the New Plymouth District Court on Thursdy 15 October.
