Saturday night’s fourth annual Dove Pink Star Walk was a huge success with over 3,000 people turning out to show their support, raising funds for The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation in a very pink (and thankfully dry!) Auckland Domain.

Friends, families, parents and children joined together for the leisurely 5km walk, live entertainment from R&B vocalist Vince Harder and an impressive pink fireworks display. A minutes silence at the beginning of the event acknowledged the lives of the 2,500 New Zealand women who are diagnosed with breast cancer, and the more than 600 women who tragically die from the disease each year.

Funds raised from the Dove Pink Star Walk will go towards helping The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation continue important research for prevention and cure. Over the past four years Dove has raised more than $200,000 for The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation, through its annual Dove Pink Star Walk and limited edition Dove Pink range, and the company is committed to supporting the charity’s efforts in fighting the disease. The final amount raised through this year’s event is currently being tallied and will be announced on www.dovepinkstarwalk.co.nz in the coming weeks.

“Everyone knows someone; a wife, a mother, a sister, a daughter, a friend, who has been affected by breast cancer, which is why Dove is continuing to raise funds for this important cause,” says Briar Taylor, Dove Pink marketing manager.

Heather Shotter, Executive Trustee of The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation, says; “While all of us hope that a cure for breast cancer is on the horizon, it is only through research that we will find it. While we wait for a cure it is research that enables doctors to answer the questions that affect our survival rate.”
