New rural fire force controller for Omori

Will Shirer has been appointed as the new voluntary Rural Fire Controller for Omori at a recent meeting of the Taupo District Council.

Mr Shirer replaces the long serving Brian Hayes, who has filled this voluntary position for some 22 years. Mr Shirer had previously been the Deputy Controller. His appointment took effect from 1 October 2009.

Members of the Taupo Rural Fire Authority acknowledged the voluntary and valuable role Mr Hayes had undertaken. Councillor Don Ormsby in particular commented on what a good job Mr Hayes had provided for the community and that this needed to be recognised.
