Whakatane Police are asking for the public's help to identify the whereabouts of Ernie O'Neal Paul - a high risk offender who is wanted for breach of bail.

Paul has a distinctive appearance. He is a Male Maori, 34 years of age, 174 centimetres tall and of medium build. He has several highly visible and distinctive Mongrel Mob Rogue tattoos on his face, neck and back.

Paul is originally from Kawerau, however, he has also lived in South Auckland.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Standen, from Whakatane Police CIB, says Paul has a history of violence and of carrying weapons, including knives and firearms. He should not be approached by members of the public.

"We are anxious to find him as soon as possible, and we're asking people to get in touch with us if they have seen Paul or have any information about his whereabouts," says Detective Senior Sergeant Standen.

He says people should contact their local police station or call 111 if they see Paul or know where he is. They could also contact Kawerau Police Station on 07 323 1400 or Whakatane Police Station on 07 308 5255.

Detective Senior Sergeant Standen says Paul may be travelling outside the Eastern Bay of Plenty area, and could be in Tauranga, South Auckland or Northland.
