New Zealand’s native bush is being poisoned by the conservation department assigned to protect it. Each year thousands of birds and other wild life including farm animals die horrible agonizing deaths thanks to this department.

What you will see will shock you

• 1080 is supported by both the SPCA and the Royal Forest and Bird society – both use monstrous justifications to continue this practice, that’s if you can get them to speak – quite often their silence is deafening

• New Zealand – population 4.3 million is one of the worlds smallest western nations uses the bulk of this toxic poison – 85% of world supply – NZ is the major buyer while our bigger neighbour - Australian uses only a mere 7%

• NZ drops about 4000kg of pure 1080 per year – enough to kill 20 million people – on a per acre basis this is 700 times more than Australia and 22,000 times the rest of the world

• Our native bush is reeking from the smell of dead animals after DoC has mandated its killing spree – the bacteria that breaks down the bodies is being poisoned by 1080 – Remember 1080 is a toxic insecticide and will kill anything that eats it including maggots

Tourists are being shocked by the smell – clean green NZ – yeah right!

• DR Miranda Shirley who has a Bachelor of Science PhD and works for the RSPCA in Australia says 1080 is not a humane poison and yet the SPCA remains supportive of how these animals are dying and that incudes farmers stock and dogs.

• “When a bird/animal is poisoned they become quite – they ruffle up their feathers – they drool and have difficulty breathing –they become clumsy and uncoordinated – they start to have twitching of their muscles and convulsions where there limbs goes stiff and they curve backwards, they fit – how long it takes a creature to die from 1080 various from species to species and how much bait has been injested, but its fair to say that it will be somewhere between hours and days….”

• 1080 is not only killing native birds – but native weta’s and bats – and possibly native eels as well – but DoC denies it all – even when the evidence is right before their eyes

• Dr Q whiting-O’Keefe BA MA in chemistry math specialises in the design and evaluation of scientific research and was on the faculty of the University of California, now living in New Zealand - He is uniquely qualified to take on this project in that … basically in lay language he analyses data to tell if a piece of scientific research should be paid attention to – The O’Keefe’s spent 6 months going through DoC scientific literature and wrote a 100 page fully reference highly detailed appraisal of what the science actually showed about the benefits and harm being done by this extraordinary practice

• “The study we did -The results were shocking and actually disturbing because the DOC is supposed to engender trust and yet what we found was that they badly betrayed the public ……The evidence is over whelming that 1080 is killing tens of thousands maybe hundreds of thousands of birds, the list is extensive, robins, kea, more-porks,

they complied their numbers using DoC’s own evidence – documented cases they looked at after 1080 drops –The numbers vary between 3% to 30% per drop and these drops are happening every 2 to 3 years

O’Keefe says ….” you can call this decimation but decimation means killing only one in 10 ….one in 10 would be a good day for the keas, as the evidence shows they are killing 25% of them per drop”

Morepork our only native owl…..Ross Campbell of Owlcatraz Native Bird and wildlife Park says …..”I’ve seen huge effects – I don’t mean small but HUGE effects – of 1080 upon the moreporks …..before a 1080 drop starts we would get only a few dead owls handed in a year but once a 1080 drop has started we could get up to 16 owls handed in – and so my concern is because the owl takes so long to reproduce we could see the end of the species of these beautiful natives in some areas of our country”

The indiscriminate killing keeps happening with oblivious and ignorant support by Forest and Bird - the Greens and central and regional governments – this is made possible because few people fully comprehend the devastation this is having on our wildlife population.

DoC has been doing this for over 20 years and still the number of possums have risen – thus it is not an effective way but an addictive pattern and a very lucrative business for some.

1080 is a poison the US wants banned because of its danger and yet clean green NZzzzz drops kilos of the stuff throughout its national parks, farmland and native bush without a care or consequence of its deadly killing power

Shame on New Zealand.

Councils that are stopping 1080 drops are Tapuo and the Mayor of Kaikoura is trying to get it stopped in his area.

HAWAII ISLANDS POISONED - INTERESTING COINCIDENCE?

We are all, by now, aware of the 122 tons of Brodifacoum poison that the Department of Conservation dropped across New Zealand's precious Rangitoto and Motutapu islands, claiming to protect wildlife (using a substance that persists in the environment, that kills animals, birds and fish life, by causing them to bleed to death, through internal hemorrhaging, over a period of up to 2 weeks.) Inhumane? You bet!

But the most interesting part of this story is the information that is now coming through from Hawaii.

Their Department of Land and Natural Resource (a very similar name to our own bureaucracy - DoC) dropped Rat poison, similar to the one used on our islands, across their Ni'ihau, Lehua, Lihue, & Kauai island's. A couple of sentences from the reports..."Ni'ihau residents still are not eating fish months after thousands of dead fish washed ashore. The dead fish appeared in mid-January shortly after the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service dumped rat poison on nearby Lehua island on behalf of the state Department of Land and Natural Resources."

Resident Keith Robinson stated that there are reportedly about a dozen Monk Seals who used to regularly visit the island and have recently "gone missing" while others appear "extremely sick."

Bruce Robinson says..."It's kind of strange that this is the first time this has happened in a century."

Robinson goes on to say..."There appears to be some information that others have sampled that they did find residue at very low level, which makes you wonder. It doesn't necessarily mean the smoking gun."

As "authorities" test samples, community members continue to speculate on the cause of a massive fish kill reported earlier this month on Ni'ihau and the death days later of a young humpback whale on Kaua'i.

Some residents suspect a recent federally administered rodenticide application on the uninhabited island of Lehua may be linked to the dead fish that have washed ashore there and on the nearby Forbidden Island.

Dr Thierry Work, with the National Wildlife Health Centre, found that there were "no visible lesions" and "no evidence of external or internal bleeding."

And so we are left with the suspicion that 'algal blooms' appear anywhere government departments aerially apply lethal poisons across offshore land masses - apparently killing all sorts of wildlife...including "sea slugs". Wow folks, they really do take us for a bunch of idiots!
