QUEENSTOWN

An adventure film festival born in Queenstown is expanding into cinemas across New Zealand and Australia this December thanks to a distribution agreement signed with the Hoyts Cinemas, one of Australasia’s leading entertainment corporations.

The festival has enjoyed four seasons in Queenstown where it was created by Kirsten Nicholl of OSB Productions as an inspirational addition to the local events calendar. The Columbia Adventure Film Festival is a 2 hour, 20 minute, full high-definition experience that brings together some of the greatest movies screened over the past few years of the Queenstown festival.

The festival is confirmed to screen in 5 cinemas in New Zealand and 16 in Australia, with a number of associated regional cinemas across both countries expecting to be confirmed shortly.

Columbia sportswear has supported the Queenstown Adventure Film Festival for the past two years and has confirmed its association with the new event. Red Bull has also confirmed sponsorship involvement.
Ms Nicholl says she is excited and delighted about taking the festival to a wider audience.

“We have always believed in the broad appeal of films around the theme of adventure. Our experience in Queenstown has shown there is a strong appetite for adventure films across the wider community.

Adventure means different things to different people and we aim to inspire the audience to get off the couch to find adventures of their own. These award winning films come from all over the world and we know that seeing them in high-definition on large commercial screens will add a real “wow” factor.”

The Columbia Adventure Film Festival will screen exclusively in Hoyts and some Hoyts affiliated cinemas in Australia and New Zealand from 10 – 24th December 2009. For more information including movie details, check out www.adventurefilmfest.com.

The Queenstown Adventure Film Festival returns for its 5th year in July/August 2010.
