Mulch is material placed on soil to cover and protect it. It acts like a sunscreen for gardens; cutting down evaporation by up to 70 percent so moisture stays in the soil longer and plants need less watering. It also slows weed growth, leaving you more time to enjoy your garden this summer.

As mentioned in last week's page, we're doing information water patrols in the city to ensure people are aware of year-round water restrictions and water conservation.

Patrollers will be looking for opportunities to let people know what days they should be watering and will also provide information to those not complying with the year-round restrictions.

Current water restrictions in place allow:

  • sprinklers and unattended hoses to be used 6.00am - 8.00am and 7.00pm - 9.00pm on odd / even days (odd-numbered houses on odd-numbered days and vice versa)
  • careful use of hand-held hoses at any time.
