Motor cyclist dead after head on

Kaiapoi police are currently investigating a fatal crash which occured on SH1 just north of the Northern Motorway near Kaiapoi.

It appears that a motorvehicle travelling North has struck a motor cyclist travelling south. The male motor cyclist died at the scene.

Police are currently conducting enquiries to establish the identity of the deceased motor cyclist.

The driver of the car was uninjured but a passenger in the vehicle received moderate injuries and was taken to Christchurch Hospital.

Police have spoken to a number of witnesses at the scene but would be interested to hear from any person who may have witnessed the manner of driving of either vehicle prior to the crash.

The motor car involved is a Toyota Caldina 4 door station wagon with a dark top and silver bottom.
The motorbike is Black Triumph.
