The New Zealand Hat and Hair Awards, sponsored by Mazda New Zealand and supported by Timaru Motors, wowed Timaru recently with 61 dazzling entries themed around the Four Corners of the Globe.
The west featured modern world designs, the north was based on the Arctic Circle, the east focussed on the Orient whilst the south celebrated the culture of the South Pacific.
The top awards both went to local women. The Mazda Supreme Hair Art award was given to Sabina Turner and Sonia Andrews from Pleasant Point for their first-time entry Sangoma in the south corner. Donna Coles of Timaru was awarded the Supreme Hat Award for her hat 'Aria's Jazz' in the west category.
Established in 2005, the Hat & Hair Awards continue to grow in popularity and are attracting entries from all over New Zealand. Next year's event will be themed A Century of Cinema.
