The first of nine concrete bridge beams was lifted into place for the new Centennial Drive Bridge early on Monday morning as another key milestone was reached on the East Taupo Arterial.

The two lane bridge is part of the Centennial Drive interchange which includes on and off ramps providing access to and from the ETA to Centennial Drive. A 220 tonne crane from Culham Engineering was used to lift the beams.

Motorists are reminded Centennial Drive will be closed to through traffic until 6.00pm Wednesday 23 December. There is full access during the closure to the Taupo Native Plant Nursery and Department of Conservation driveway from the eastern side of Centennial Drive and access to the Taupo Clay Target Club and the new Taupo Dog Pound from the western side of Centennial Drive.

A detour is in place via Broadlands Road and Tauhara Road during the closure.
