One dead in Tauranga crash

A crash occurred on State Highway 2, Matapihi, Tauranga, at about 5.34 this morning. It appears at this early stage that two cars are involved and it is believed the occupants are seriously injured. The road is currently blocked and motorists are asked to avoid that area. Emergency services are currently working at the scene to free one of the occupants who is trapped in their vehicle.

Update 6.22am - One person has died as a result of this crash. Road blocks are located at the intersection of SH2 and Manganui Road, the other is just south of the Maungatapu Bridge.
