INVERCARGILL

At 4.00pm on Sunday 10th January 2010, Invercargill Emergency Services were called to the scene of a motor vehicle crash which occurred on North Road Invercargill.

The crash occurred on North Road which is the main route through the industrial area. The road in question is a straight section of road governed by a 50 km/hr speed limit.

The crash involved the one vehicle with single occupant.

The vehicle in question veered off the left hand side of the road striking a power pole causing relatively minor damage to the car and the pole.

The male driver of the vehicle was immediately treated at the scene and was taken to Southland Hospital. He subsequently died despite treatment at the hospital.

The name of the deceased will not be released until next of kin can be notified.

At this stage Police are confident that speed and alcohol are NOT factors in the crash.

The matter has been reported to the Coroner
