Celebrations at Colonial Cottage

Ever think about actually celebrating the city on Wellington Anniversary Day? Perhaps you'll raise a toast to this compact city of hills and thrills, but before you do that, check out the Colonial Cottage Museum (68 Nairn Street).
Museum Director Brett Mason says since it's the city's birthday, "what better way to celebrate than for Wellingtonians to visit the city's oldest cottage?"
For $10, you can get a tour of the museum and its stunning heritage garden. There will also be a barbeque and an Alice in Wonderland-themed performance by the Footnote Dance Company from 2.00pm to 3.00pm.
"We'll put on return shuttle buses that depart from the top of the Cable Car every half-hour between 12 noon and 4.30pm so people of all ages and abilities can easily make their way to and from the cottage," says Brett.
The cost for both the shuttle and barbeque is included in the $10 entry fee.
Colonial Cottage was built in 1858 by settler William Wallis for his family - a time when the nails used to build the cottage had to be imported.
