Brooklands Zoo’s newest monkey needs a name – and the public can help out.

A Name the Baby competition has been launched for the capuchin monkey born on 29 September.

“We don’t know if the monkey is a boy or a girl yet, so we need a unisex name – ideally one with a central or south American theme as wild capuchins are found in these areas,” says Technical Officer Zoo Eve Cozzi.

The person whose suggested name is chosen will receive a certificate and have an encounter with the capuchins. “This will be outside the enclosure for their safety, but we’ll get the winner closer to the monkeys than is usual for the public,” says Ms Cozzi.

The baby capuchin’s parents are Dixie and Boo. The capuchin name comes from their ‘caps’ of hair, which resemble the cowls of capuchin monks.

To enter the Name the Baby competition, just fill in the online form here. Entry forms are also available at Brooklands Zoo and at Council offices.

The competition closes at 5pm on Friday 5 February, and the winner will be announced the following week.
