The local rock community will put their talents to good use next week with Rock 4 Haiti, an 8 hour music festival to raise money for victims of the recent Haiti earthquake.

The free event, which will be held on the Village Green from 12.30 on Friday the 29th of January, will feature The Flaming Drivers, Eddie Ledderhead, The Skitzofrantiks, The G.C’s, The Vigilantes, Intergalactic Disco Movement, The Lynch Mob with more acts to be confirmed.

Event co-organiser Glen Balfour of The Flaming Drivers says the response from the community in terms of staging the concert has been incredible. He says many local businesses have donated time or services with local radio station The Rock coming on board as a sponsor and John Stapleton of Queenstown entertainment venue Revolver taking charge of the finer details of managing the event.

Mr Balfour says the money raised will be given to the Red Cross, ensuring that 100 percent of the donations will get to the final destination.

As well as donation buckets, there will be raffles and a sausage sizzle, courtesy of Hellers. Mr Balfour says Rock 4 Haiti will be offering a good afternoon’s entertainment for a good cause, making it easy for Queenstown locals and visitors to donate to Haiti’s earthquake relief effort.

Tim Lockhart, General Manager of Rock 4 Haiti’s radio sponsor The Rock Queenstown says the whole of New Zealand has been shocked by the images of suffering coming out of Haiti.

He says while Haiti may be quite distant from New Zealand, as residents of a country on a fault line, we all realise that a disaster like Haiti’s is not too far removed from what could happen here. He says Rock 4 Haiti is a great way for the community to band together to raise funds for a country and a people in a state of absolute desperation.

Rock 4 Haiti will take place on The Village Green on Friday the 29th of January 12.30p- 8.30p. Admission Free.
