ARROWTOWN

The Queenstown Lakes District Council has today lifted the Boil Water Notice issued for Arrowtown.
The notice was put in place on Tuesday after routine testing detected an e-coli contamination level of 1 - the minimal contamination level, QLDC senior 3 waters service engineer Bernard Robinson said.

“Once we have an indication we must then test the water for three days and receive three clear consecutive test results before we can lift the notice. Every other test has come back clear,” Mr Robinson said.

It was possible that the indication on Tuesday, which was not in the reservoir but the reticulation, was a false reading however the council had no option but to issue the notice.
Meanwhile staff had flushed the water lines as a precautionary measure.

“At the end of the day we could have chlorinated the supply but the residents of Arrowtown have made it very clear they value the ability to drink chemical-free water,” Mr Robinson said.
