Two dead in Bay of Plenty crash

12.10pm - Police and emergency services are attending to a fatal two vehicle accident on SH 33 at Paengaroa in the Western Bay of Plenty. The scene location is approximately 10km south of Paengaroa.

A ute was travelling on this highway towards Rotorua when he lost control and collided with a bus travelling in the opposite direction. The bus was solely occupied by the driver at the time.

The two occupants of the ute have suffered extensive injuries. One is now confirmed deceased and the other is still being cut out of the vehicle with life threatening injuries.

The Police Serious Crash Unit are investigating.

Road blocks have been set up at the intersection of SH 33 and Old Coach Rd south of the Paengaroa township to the south and where the highway intersects with Maniatutu Rd to the north.

Police patrols stationed at the road blocks will direct traffic to detours.

Its not known at this time as to how long this part of the state highway will be closed for.
